In April 2025, Ontario passed Bill 5, allowing the government to create 'Special Economic Zones' exempt from Provincial laws and environmental safeguards. The legislation has sparked strong opposition from Indigenous leadership, municipalities, and civil society groups.

This interactive talk will explore the challenges of civic organizing in an era of misinformation and polarization, sharing strategies for campaign development and citizen mobilization, and highlighting the roles that communities, academics, and students can play in advancing social and environmental justice.

Hosted by Mara Shaw and Kristen Lowitt.
