    Description:

Communities Empowered by Research Data: Tools and Best Practices

Community-led data practices empower and support community-led grassroots actions and initiatives. Data are valuable and we need to work together to take care of them, from the initial planning stages of a project to where it lives after the work is complete. In this Community Conversation, we’ll introduce the Community Research Data Toolkit.

This toolkit introduces communities and the organizations and researchers who collaborate with them to concepts of research data management—such as data management plans and data deposit—to support community sovereignty over and ownership of data. It is also a collection of guidance documents together with templates and examples that can help communities set up the structures to own and manage their own research data.

    Presenters:

Danica Evering is a Research Data Management Specialist who has worked and volunteered at several nonprofit and community organizations (from social practice art to medical laboratories to tenant support), also co-chair of the Alliance Curation Expert Group.

Subhanya Sivajothy is a Data Analysis and Visualization Librarian. She has researched data justice and is currently thinking about how participatory data design can better empower people who use data visualizations.
