Three researchers in the Department of Geography and Planning have been awarded significant funding through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada’s (NSERC) 2026 , contributing to the more than $14 million awarded to Queen’s researchers overall.
Among the recipients, Ryan Danby received a $240,000 Discovery Grant and a $100,000 Northern Research Supplement to investigate forest–tundra dynamics in Canada’s North. Neal Scott was awarded a $220,000 Discovery Grant and an $87,500 Northern Research Supplement to study greenhouse gas fluxes in High Arctic ecosystems, while Warren Mabee received a $215,000 Discovery Grant to advance research on forest carbon sequestration in harvested wood products.
The awards recognize the department’s leadership in climate change, northern environments, and sustainability research while supporting the training of the next generation of researchers.
