Professor Emeritus Dr. George Lovell has been invited to participate in the Central American Thought Forum 2026, which will be dedicated to him in recognition of his extensive scholarly contributions.
Organized by the Center for Multidisciplinary Research on Chiapas and the Southern Border (CIMSUR) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the forum will take place October 27–28, 2026, in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico.
The Central American Thought Forum is an academic space dedicated to examining key issues and scholarship related to the Central American region. This year’s event will focus on Dr. Lovell’s research, particularly his studies of the history and geography of Guatemala as part of the Central American region. His work has contributed significantly to understanding the region’s historical, cultural, economic, political, and social processes, including the enduring impacts of the colonial period.
The forum will feature scholarly dialogue between Lovell, colleagues at CIMSUR-UNAM, and invited specialists on his work: Santiago Bastos, Verónica Ruiz, Aaron Pollak, and Ruth Piedrasanta. The event aims to foster academic exchange and highlight the significance of Lovell’s contributions to Central American studies.
