PHIL 362  constitutes the minimal logic requirement for any self-respecting philosophy student in any philosophy department worthy of the name in most countries today. It offers basic minimum training in formal languages, arguably the most useful training for philosophers in today’s job markets.

In PHIL 362, we cover the logic of first-order quantification over predicates, names, and definite descriptions. (Do not let the technical vocabulary intimidate you.) We learn to think and write without ambiguity, to prove valid those reasonings that are, and to show to be invalid arguments that are not. We become clearer and more exacting thinkers and writers.
