The Physics department helped sponsor one of our Mathematical Physics 4th year students, Don Kim, so he could travel to Germany. Here are some photos from Don and a little blurb about his trip:
I was at the for 5 days, which took place at the ZiF centre for interdisciplinary research at the University of Bielefeld, Germany this year. It was interesting to see mathematicians and physicists come together and discuss the recent progress (and some depressing/hopeful outlook on AI).
I had a poster session on my ongoing work from my summer internship at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems. I took a picture with one of the organizers who gave me helpful feedback on my work.
After the conclusion of the workshop, a few of us went to see the Christmas market in the Bielefeld city centre, and I have another (blurry) picture with PhDs and postdocs I met there. Finally, before taking my return flight home, I explored the nearby city of Düsseldorf a bit with the Rhine tower and some exotic buildings shown in the last picture.
