Professor Stephen Hughes wins one of the two faculty-wide "Excellence in Graduate Mentorship" awards, announced recently at the annual Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Award Ceremony.

The graduate mentorship award honours faculty members in the FAS who have made outstanding contributions to promoting graduate student excellence through teaching, supervision, and mentorship at the graduate level. The nominating students, past and present, indicated that Professor Hughes exemplifies the highest standards of academic mentorship, combining scholarly rigor with empathy, dedication, and unwavering support for his students’ development.

Unfortunately, Professor Hughes could not make the Award ceremony as he is currently in Japan working with Japanese collaborators. When asked about the award, he commented that the award was a complete surprise and sincerely thanks both current and former graduate students for the very kind nomination, and stresses the award is really because of them, and that it has been a pleasure and privilege to work with, and learn from, such a strong group of talented and fantastic students.
