A distinguished scholar in the fields of comparative politics and international relations, Professor Haklai's research focuses on nationalism, ethnic conflict, state-minority relations, democratization, and Middle East politics. Since joining the Queen’s faculty in 2004, he has built an exemplary record of teaching, research, mentorship, and academic leadership.
In addition to his role as Professor in the Department of Political Studies, Professor Haklai has served as Director of the Centre for the Study of Democracy and Diversity. His award-winning scholarship includes Palestinian Ethnonationalism in Israel, which received the Shapiro Award for Best Book in Israel Studies, as well as numerous influential publications on democracy, ethnic relations, territorial disputes, and conflict resolution.
Professor Haklai brings a strong commitment to academic excellence, and a deep dedication to supporting students, faculty, and staff. As Head of the Department of Political Studies, he will guide the department in advancing its reputation for outstanding teaching, impactful research, and engaged scholarship.
