Biography
Professor MacMullen is a distinguished political theorist whose research and teaching focus on citizenship, democratic education, and religious and cultural pluralism. He is the author of two influential books, Civics Beyond Critics: Character Education in a Liberal Democracy(Oxford University Press) and Faith in Schools? Autonomy, Citizenship, and Religious Education in the Liberal State(Princeton University Press). His work has also appeared in leading scholarly journals, including the Journal of Political Philosophy, the Journal of Politics, Theory and Research in Education, and the Journal of Social Philosophy.
Prior to joining ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥, Professor MacMullen held faculty and academic leadership positions at the University of Pennsylvania, Duke University, and Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. MacMullen’s academic leadership has focused especially on creating richer student experiences through creating campus-wide interdisciplinary communities.
