Course Description

This course examines the institutions, powers, and challenges of municipal government in Canada including the legal and constitutional foundations of municipalities, the relationships between local, provincial, Indigenous, and federal governments, and the policy issues that shape contemporary cities and communities. A variety of policy topics of particular importance to the municipal sector will be examined. Through case studies and practical policy analysis, students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand how local governments make decisions and respond to complex public policy challenges.
