Purpose: The Res Ipsa Loquitur Bursary was established in October 2002 by Professor Jim MacIntyre, a Queen’s faculty member from 1959 to 1964, to honour the remembrance of the Res Ipsa Loquitur Boarding House which played a significant role in the lives of many law students and faculty members during the 1960’s. The bursary is awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any year of the Faculty of Law.

Class Goal: Please consider making a gift to commemorate our 60th reunion.

With law school tuition now exceeding $18,000 per year, financial aid is more important than ever.

We want to help ensure that no qualified student is unable to attend Queen’s Law because of financial restraints. Donations of all sizes are welcome.

Class Fund: The Law 1966 Scholarship in Contract Law (new name)

The Law ’66 Book Prize was established with gifts made to the University by members of Law’66 beginning in 1993.  The original calendar terms were approved by Senate in September 1996 and subsequently revised in 2016 as book prizes are no longer established at ����ֱ��. The award was renamed "The Law 1966 Scholarship in Contract Law" and award criteria was revised to reflect the current standards.

Class Goal: To commemorate our 50^th anniversary we launched a fundraising campaign to top up the class scholarship with the goal of raising $10,000 by our next reunion in 2021.  This additional funding will increase the annual scholarship to approximately $430. With law school tuition now exceeding $18,000 per year, financial aid is more important than ever.  We hope that everyone in our class will contribute and if each of us commits to a $500 donation ($10/year for every year since we graduated), we will easily meet our goal.

Donations of any size are welcome and can be spread over a maximum of 5 years. Donations are fully tax deductible.  If you have any questions, please contact one of us.

Law Class of 1976 Class Giving Campaign

Despite not being on campus or holding a separate reunion, we would still like to encourage you to give to our Class Campaign. The unprecedented events of the past two years have produced untold challenges for our alma mater and the students who aspire to join us as ����ֱ�� Law Alumni. With the depletion of government funding and the rising cost of tuition and living expenses, ensuring that a quality legal education remains within reach of promising scholars, regardless of their financial background, is increasingly important.

We recognize that law school education costs are considerably greater than when we were students (now exceeding $18,000.00 per year). While some of us are regular and others are intermittent supporters, we ask each class member to consider contributing to either the Douglas Traill Memorial Bursary or the Law '76 Bursary this year to mark our graduation from ����ֱ�� Law School 45 years ago.

The Douglas Traill Memorial Bursary was established by the class of Law '76 in memory of the late Douglas Melvin Traill, LLB '76, awarded primarily on the basis of financial need.

Established by the class of Law'76 and awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in any year of the Faculty of Law who is a resident of Ontario.

The Law’86 Bursary – Let’s finish strong before our 40th!

The Law 1986 Bursary has now reached $308,814 – this is tremendous progress toward our goal of $375,000. As part of the fundraising efforts, we have confirmed a matching donation of up to $30,000 from a member of our class. In other words, for every dollar donated up to $30,000, we receive a 2-for-1 deal!

With this milestone, we'll not only convert our bursary into a renewable one, offering consistent support to recipients across all three years, but we'll also finally "blow past" our esteemed colleagues in Law'80 on the endowed class rankings to the top spot. The gap is narrower than ever, and we’re confident we can take the lead. To check our current standing, visit the class giving rankings online.

Recognizing that financial barriers should never stand in the way of a young person’s ability to access education, the Law'86 bursary has supported 15 students and disbursed $47,600 in much-needed financial assistance since its inception. But with tuition now over $22,000 per year and the rising cost of living, the need for support has never been greater. Many students face financial challenges that weren't part of our experience. Your gift can help address those barriers and expand access to legal education for students.

We encourage you to make your next contribution before our reunion this fall. Our goal is to have as many classmates participate as possible.
