Reading Session: Talk ֱ a Little Culture

Date & Time: 27 November, 12:00–4:00 pm
Location: Ban Righ Centre, 32 Bader Lane.

Informal conversation facilitated by Katherine McKittrick, Professor of Gender Studies and Canada Research Chair in Black Studies, and Nasrin Himada, Associate Curator of Academic Outreach and Community Engagement that focuses on anti-colonial theory, reading and writing, and working closely with Sylvia Wynter’s 1967 essay, “We Must Learn to Sit Down Together and Talk ֱ a Little Culture.” The session is structured to balance collaborative reading, with quiet time allocated to read the essay, followed by an organic and multi-vocal conversation about key themes, theories, literatures and formats that shape the exhibition, A Smile Split by the Stars.

Participants receive the essay in advance—it is highly recommended participants read the text beforehand. The reading group has availability for 25 people, with 10 spaces reserved for graduate students of Black Studies, Indigenous Studies, studies of Palestine, or cognate areas. Refreshments will be provided. Presented in partnership with the Ban Righ Centre.

Winter Bazaar 2025

The annual Ban Righ Centre Winter Bazaar is a celebration we hold in December for our current student parents and their families. The children pick out holiday gifts for their family members for just $0.25 per gift. We will have activities for kids, food for the family, and it is a great time for parents to relax after a long semester of hard work.

The Winter Bazaar is on Wednesday December 10 @ 5-7pm at the Ban Righ Centre.

. Space is limited so registration is on a first come first served basis.

If you are an out-of-town student parent, don’t worry! We have something special planned for you too. Please fill out the survey and follow the prompts for out-of-town students.

Please note: we are not able to automatically close this registration form when we reach capacity. We will be in touch to confirm if your registration was successful. We will have a wait list in case there are any cancellations.
