Pascale Champagne

Network Director & Co-Principal Investigator

Dr. Pascale Champagne is the Network Director of the CEC-REN. Dr. Champagne's research focuses on the development of alternate water and waste management strategies and environmentally sustainable approaches with a focus on integrated bioresource management. Her research activities are interdisciplinary and have commonality with the fields of environmental and chemical engineering, biology and green chemistry; hence, she collaborates and has evolved synergistic relationships with a number of researchers in these fields to develop new integrated bioresource management practices, to introduce alternate aqueous and solid waste management approaches, and to create unique opportunities for the bioenergy and biproducts sectors.

Shari Glustein

Research Operations Administrator

Shari Glustein is the Research Operations Administrator for the CEC-REN. She received a B.A. in Psychology (Honours) from McGill University and a Master of Library and Information Science degree from University of Western Ontario. She works with the CEC-RE Network to ensure achievement of strategic goals, research priorities, and operational plans, as well as compliance with requirements of government, academic and collaborating organizations. She is engaged with environmental concerns and issues and is eager to support student and faculty research in this area.

Yu Pei

Research Associate

Dr. Yu Pei is the Research Associate for the CEC-REN. She received her PhD in Chemistry from Queen’s University, BSc in Chemistry from Nankai University, China and BEng in Chemical Engineering from Tianjin University, China. Dr. Pei works with faculties and graduate students to support the research activities in the CEC-REN, and provides training and maintenance on the research equipment.

Rachel Korchinsky

Youth Outreach and Education Coordinator

Rachel Korchinsky is one of the Youth Outreach and Education Coordinators for CEC-REN. She is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Chemistry under the co-supervision of Dr. Philip G. Jessop and Dr. Michael F. Cunningham at Queen’s University, where she also earned her Bachelor of Science (Honours Specialization in Chemistry) and a Certificate in Law. In her role with CEC-REN, Rachel collaborates with community and industry partners to develop and coordinate youth outreach events and initiatives, including age-appropriate programming and volunteer engagement.

Prama Roy

Youth Outreach and Education Coordinator

Prama Roy is one of the Youth Outreach and Education Coordinators for CEC-REN. She is a PhD Candidate in Environmental Studies at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and is co-supervised by Drs. Barbara Zeeb (Royal Military College of Canada) and Allison Rutter ( Analytical Services Unit, Environmental Studies). Her doctoral research investigates the bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in the Canadian boreal ecozone by harnessing the symbiosis between plants, mycorrhizal fungi, and plant-growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). At CEC-REN, Prama helps coordinate local youth outreach events and seeks new opportunities for outreach and education initiatives in the Kingston and southeastern Ontario region.

Philip Jessop

Co-Principal Investigator

Dr. Philip Jessop is a professor and Canada Research Chair of Green Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada. He also serves as Executive Research Director at Forward Water Technologies. After his Ph.D. (British Columbia, 1991) and a postdoctoral appointment (Toronto, 1992), he was a contract researcher in Japan working for R. Noyori (Nobel Prize 2001).  As a professor at the University of California-Davis (1996-2003) and since then at Queen’s, he has studied green solvents and the chemistry of CO2 and H2. Distinctions include the NSERC Polanyi Award (2008), Killam Research Fellowship (2010), Canadian Green Chemistry & Engineering Award (2012), Eni Award (2013), Fellowship in the Royal Society of Canada (2013), a Canada Research Chair Tier 1 (2013 to 2020), and the NSERC Brockhouse Prize (2019).

Dr. Jessop serves as Chair of the Editorial Board for the journal Green Chemistry, has chaired three international conferences, and helped create GreenCentre Canada, a National Centre of Excellence for the commercialization of green chemistry technologies. Forward Water Technologies Inc. is a spin-off company based upon Dr. Jessop’s switchable solvents.
