For ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ digital properties
These rules apply to:
- websites that are hosted on the queensu.ca domain
- official institutional websites hosted on another domain
Requirements
- Use the horizontal version of the Queen’s logo.
-
The horizontal Queen’s logo must appear in the top left corner of the header area, as the first visible element on the page, of every ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ website.
-
The horizontal Queen’s logo must appear in the footer area of every ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ website.
-
The logo must link to Queen’s homepage URL: . The link must open, by default, in the same window (i.e. do not use the HTML target attribute to open the link in a new browser window or tab).
-
The horizontal logo should be no smaller than 130 pixels wide.
-
Ensure the required clear space around the logo is maintained.
-
No other logos or lockups should appear in the website header, menu, or footer areas (apart from social media icons and functional icons — e.g. an arrow, a printer icon, a search icon — which are allowed).
Recommendations
Use the full colour reverse logo with ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Blue as the background colour.
Full colour or single colour logo options may be used when the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Blue background cannot be employed, such as when branding vendor tools or third-party applications where design options are constrained. In these cases, the full colour logo may be placed on white background.
Notes for developers
Logo position: With respect to "…in the top left of the header area as the first visible element on the page" — this refers to the top left of the grid system for the viewport.
Utility bar code: Developers of custom websites (i.e. those not built with the enterprise WebPublish content management system), are encouraged to include the horizontal ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ logo in the site head using our utility bar options, which also includes emergency alert functionality.
¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ logo on external websites
These rules apply to external websites that use our logo to indicate ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ as a sponsor or partner.
Recommendations
-
Against light backgrounds, the horizontal full colour logo is the preferred version.
-
Against dark backgrounds, the horizontal full colour reverse is the preferred version.
-
A one-colour logo (black or white) and vertical version may be used if the situation requires (e.g. when all other partner logos are in black or white for consistency).
-
If used in combination with other external logos, the Queen’s logo should be of equal size and proportion, but at a minimum of 130 pixels wide for a horizontal logo and 100 pixels wide for a vertical logo.
-
Proper clear space must be maintained around the Queen’s logo and other partner logos.
Use of logo lockups
As described on the Brand Central website, logo lockups are not meant to be used on ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ digital platforms (neither web nor social).
However, on an website external to ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥, lockups may be used to demonstrate a partnership, collaboration, or sponsorship with a specific area (faculty/department/unit) of ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
Additionally, within ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ web pages, where multiple internal and external partnerships or sponsorships are being recognized in the same space, a logo lockup may be used to indicate a specific ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ area as a partner or sponsor.
