Nancy Ross seeking reappointment as Vice-Principal (Research)

A Principal’s Advisory Committee has been created to gather community feedback and provide a recommendation on the reappointment.

Dr. Nancy Ross (Artsci'90, MA'92) has indicated that she wishes to be considered for reappointment as Vice-Principal (Research). Her current five-year term is completed on August 1, 2026.

Dr. Ross assumed the role of Vice-Principal (Research) at Queen’s University on August 1, 2021. A highly accomplished research administrator and faculty member in the Department of Public Health, she is a recognized leader in interdisciplinary health research. The Vice-Principal (Research) is responsible for setting and guiding the strategic direction of research across the university, fostering a vibrant research environment, and representing ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ in national and international research communities and partnerships. As a service provider, the portfolio includes Research Services, Queen’s Partnerships and Innovation, Research Ethics and Compliance, Animal Care Services, and the Centre for Advanced Computing. The Vice-Principal (Research) also has a governance role in various university-based and external Research Centres and Institutes. Dr. Ross led the development and launch of the Strategic Research Plan 2025-2030, which outlines a vision for advancing Queen’s research mission as a member of the U15 and one of Canada’s most research-intensive institutions. The plan builds on the Research Impact goal of the Queen’s Strategy. Dr. Ross is also currently the vice-chair of the U15 and Council of Ontario Universities research committees.  

In recognition of the prominence of the role of research at Queen’s, the committee, chaired by Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane, includes representation from across the university:

The committee will meet this fall and provide a recommendation to Principal Deane who will then bring his decision forward to the Board of Trustees for approval in December.

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ community members are invited to on the role of the Vice-Principal (Research) and the present state and future development of the portfolio through by September 30, 2025. All responses are anonymous, and a summary report will be shared with the advisory committee for consideration.
