The We! mural was created by artist Anna Jane McIntyre.
A new mural celebrating diversity within the Queen’s community is now featured on the exterior south wall of the Queen’s Athletics and Recreation Centre. Created by Montreal-based artist Anna Jane McIntyre, the 9.08 by 3.4 metre piece, called We!, envisions a future rooted in celebration, healing, resilience, cultural richness, and optimism.
Commissioned through the Advocacy Coalition Mural project, the initiative was a collaboration between the Office of the Principal and Vice-Chancellor and the student-led Queen’s University Advocacy Coalition.
McIntyre was one of three artists who presented mural concepts at a virtual town hall in 2022. Following public feedback and a voting process, her design was selected. The final piece also incorporates elements developed during collaborative workshops with members of the Queen’s and Kingston communities.
McIntyre is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose practice spans storytelling, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, performance, installation, and micro-activism. Her work explores how people shape and express identity through behaviour and visual cues, drawing from British, Trinidadian, and Canadian cultural traditions.
