Brennen’s research interests are in critical social theory and political philosophy. He is particularly interested in issues of methodology within critical social theory, and is influenced by the practice-based accounts of social normativity defended by neo-Hegelian critical theorists such as Axel Honneth and Rahel Jaeggi.

My research is focused on the philosophical writings of Iris Murdoch, with special focus on philosophical method and Murdoch’s place in the history of 20th century analytic philosophy. My research, like Murdoch’s work, touches on behaviourism in the philosophy of mind, Kantian aesthetics, linguistic philosophy, and moral psychology. I am also interested in the philosophy of education, and have had work published in the Journal of Philosophy of Education.

Beyond philosophy, I am deeply passionate about labour issues and have made numerous media appearances (including on CBC Ontario Morning and Power and Politics), written op-eds for local Kingston newspapers, organized “know your rights” workshops, and produced radio shows amplifying frontline workers’ voices during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deborah Knight’s primary research is in the philosophy of art and aesthetics, in particular the philosophies of literature, film, and the visual arts. She has published on topics including: philosophy and literature, philosophy and cultural studies, and cognitive film theory. She has written on a number of films and film genres including: The Matrix, the horror film, mystery and suspense, the Western, Hitchcock, Blade Runner and Dark City, Martin Scorsese's The Age of Innocence, Tim Burton’s films starring Johnny Depp, and the films of Clint Eastwood.

Collin is interested in political philosophy, feminist ethics and presenting philosophy to the public. Collin's current research is focused on justified civil disobedience, the limits of democracy and the state and resurgent political ideologies. His work as a research assistant contributed to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy's entry on feminist ethics. Beyond Philosophy, Collin enjoys creating and listening to music. He takes pride in his role as a Cat-Dad.

My research focuses primarily on developing a philosophy of AI Art. I draw on resources from philosophy of science, philosophy of art, and philosophy of creativity to explore ethical and aesthetic questions that arise in the case of AI-generated content. Biography

• MA (Philosophy), University of Calgary

Darren’s research is focused on philosophy of education with an emphasis on political philosophy, narrative, and history education. His dissertation investigates the liberal conception of autonomy, as it has been applied to grade-school education. In this project, he asks whether autonomy could be reformulated to more adequately reflect a student’s narrative-based conceptions of self, motivation, meaningfulness, etc. Apart from his work in philosophy, Darren enjoys biking in the wilderness with his daughter.
