¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Bicentennial Vision sets a clear direction by answering four fundamental questions that will guide our decisions and actions over the coming decades:

  • Who will we be as we enter our third century?
  • What principles and objectives will unite us as we preserve our distinctive strengths and pursue new directions?
  • What key capabilities and supports must be in place to move the university forward together?
  • How will we translate our ambitions into action and impact?

Developing the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Bicentennial Vision

An advisory group consisting of students, staff, faculty, and senior leaders worked over summer 2025 to develop the draft Bicentennial Vision that was shared for public feedback in the fall. The final vision was approved by the Board of Trustees at its meeting in December 2025.

Before that, its development started formally in the January 2025 when Principal Deane released a discussion paper framing the present state and future of the sector and the context in which the Vision would be developed. Additional information regarding the state of the institution and sector was made publicly available. The release of this information was followed by extensive consultation with the university community during the Winter term of 2025 via:

A committee of the whole discussion at Senate

A dedicated session at the Board-Senate retreat

Online townhalls with students, staff, faculty, and alumni

Meetings with the Indigenous Council and Indigenous Knowledge Working Group

Session with groups of university leaders (four groups of up to 50 leaders)

A feedback portal that was open during the whole of the Winter term

A working group tasked with examining the future of the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Queen’s.

The information obtained through the consultation process was assessed to identify prominent themes that were considered during the development of the Bicentennial Vision.
