Dining and catering

There are a range of dining options for students, faculty members, and resident scholars. On-site catering facilities will be available from May 2026. Students and scholars can choose from a set menu that is made available in advance. There are also other options for both on and off site dining.

Catered option

At every meal, you will find vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, along with a range of healthy, nutritious dishes. Allergen information is available on request, and wherever possible, meals are prepared using quality local produce.

We cater for special diets – please have a chat with our catering manager who will be happy to provide:

  • a confidential consultation with a catering representative

  • support if you have severe allergies or dietary restrictions

  • an opportunity to talk with a chef to help you make safe choices

The castle café and terrace

Beyond our catered options, the popular castle café and terrace offers a delicious 'grab and go' alternative all year round. Enjoy a selection of freshly prepared sandwiches, paninis, pastries, cakes, and specialty coffee.

Fix your own meals and snacks

If you want to prepare your own meals, you have access to a kitchenette on each floor of Bader Hall or the shared kitchen in David Smith Hall if that's where you are resident. The kitchen has all the essentials of a fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle, sink, and storage units. There is also a mini-fridge in your bedroom to stock up on drinks and snacks.

The staff at Bader Reception will be able to advise you of local takeaways that deliver to Herstmonceux Castle.

If you wish to stock up on your own favourite food stuffs, there are several grocery stores that offer delivery services at varying minimum order values. Again, reception staff will be able to advise.
