Wellness Coaching

We offer students free one-on-one peer and/or professional wellness coaching appointments. These 30-minute appointments help students set a personalized health behaviour goal, discuss how to overcome potential barriers and maintain motivation.

Our coaches do not provide therapy or design diet/workout plans. If students need mental health support, they can book a mental health appointment and/or find other supports & resources.

How to book appointments

  1. Visit our
  2. Choose a health behaviour
  3. Select whether the appointment is in-person or virtual
  4. Book 1-3 follow-up appointments as needed

Students need to give 24-hours' notice if they need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.

Types of appointments available

Professional staff in Health Promotion can meet with students who want to make a change in any of the following areas:

  • Alcohol
  • Cannabis
  • Nutrition
  • Tobacco

Trained Peer Wellness Coaches (PWCs) can meet with students who want to make a change in any of the following areas:

  • Physical activity
  • Sleep
  • Mindfulness

During the mindfulness appointment, students use a MUSE biofeedback headband that passively senses brain waves. While listening to a guided meditation app, students get real-time audio feedback on how they are focusing their attention.

My name is Aaron, and I am a third-year student studying Health Studies and Psychology. I am passionate about mental health and finding unique and innovative ways to create healthy habits and behaviour changes in our everyday lives. My name is Deeya and I’m in my fourth year of Life Sciences with a specialization in Drug Discovery and Human Toxicology. I’ve always been passionate about physical and mental health and becoming a peer wellness coach allows me to support my peers in their wellness journeys and help them reach their goals.

Hi, I'm Emma and I am a third year Concurrent Education student with a major in Health Studies and a minor in Sociology! I love spending my free time during the school year outside with friends, doing workout classes at the ARC and walking to explore the Kingston waterfront and downtown core.

My name is Heli, I am a third year political studies student with a passion for mental health and learning the importance of well-being. I am thrilled to become a peer wellness coach because I have always had a passion for wanting to help my peers and others around me, being part of the peer wellness team will be an exciting and rewarding experience.

Hi!  My name is Julia and I am a third year Health Sciences student passionate about health and wellness.  Fitness has been an integral part of my life for years and has played a crucial role in my mental and emotional health.  I am thrilled to work as a Peer Wellness Coach to empower and support student sin making long-lasting, sustainable lifestyle changes to lead healthier and happier lives.

Hi all! I’m Sienna—the new graduate peer wellness coach. I’ve been a part of the Peer Wellness Coaching team for two years and am now entering this new role in hopes of meeting the unique needs of my graduate student peers. I am a Master’s student in the School of Environmental Studies researching the intersection between queer identity and waste—feel free to ask me more about it!

 

Other appointments and programs available

Students who are not currently physically active and who are experiencing mild-to-moderate symptoms of anxiety and/or depression, may be eligible for our Prescription Exercise at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ (PE-Q) program.
