QUFA ends its participation in mediation

Representatives of the Queen’s University Faculty Association (QUFA) have ended their participation in mediation talks with the University’s team aimed at renewing the collective agreement for faculty, librarians, and archivists.

The parties had agreed to participate in mediation in December in advance of conciliation in the New Year.

The University’s administration respects the collective bargaining process and remains committed to reaching a tentative agreement that is acceptable to both parties.

CUPE, university agree to conciliation

The university and Queen’s employee groups represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) have both agreed to conciliation in order to reach a new collective agreement. In conciliation, the parties are assisted by a provincially appointed conciliation officer as they work through outstanding issues. Conciliation dates have yet to be confirmed. The university administration respects the collective bargaining process and remains committed to working through it to reach a negotiated settlement.

Graduate research assistant union certification application update

Ballots remain sequestered following a vote on an application by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) for trade union certification to represent graduate research assistants at the university. The vote was conducted by the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) in April 2014.  In October 2014, the OLRB mandated the process the university and PSAC would be required to follow to determine which of those who cast ballots had the status of employees at the time the vote was held and would therefore be eligible to be members of the bargaining unit.

University, CUPE and USW, Local 2010 exchange proposals

The university and the employee group represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1302 are meeting today with the assistance of a government appointed Conciliation Officer. Conciliation bargaining dates have been confirmed for April 1 for CUPE Local 254 and  April 7 for CUPE Local 229.

Conciliation dates for USW, Local 2010 have been confirmed for April 9 and April 10.

All parties are working on scheduling additional bargaining dates.

University applies for conciliation in QUFA negotiations

Queen’s has asked the provincial government to appoint a conciliation officer to assist it and the Queen’s University Faculty Association (QUFA) in their negotiation of a collective agreement.

The appointment of a conciliation officer to assist parties in negotiating an agreement is a normal part of the collective bargaining process. A conciliator has already been appointed to assist the university and employee groups represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the United Steelworkers (USW), in their negotiation of collective agreements.
