University, USW ratify collective agreement

The tentative collective agreement between Queen’s University and the United Steelworkers (USW), Local 2010 is now in effect following a successful electronic ratification vote by USW, Local 2010 members that concluded on February 13, 2019.

The Human Resources Committee of the Queen’s Board of Trustees voted to ratify the agreement earlier this week.

University, QUFA ratify pension consent agreement and a renewed collective agreement

Tentative agreements reached in collective bargaining by the university and the Queen’s University Faculty Association (QUFA) are now official following the successful conclusion of QUFA’s ratification vote on Friday, February 15, 2019. Over 96 per cent of votes cast supported the collective agreement and the proposed conversion of the pension plan. The human resources committee of the Queen’s Board of Trustees has also ratified the agreements.

PSAC Local 901 and University reach tentative agreement

The University and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (“PSAC”), and its Local 901, reached a tentative agreement on March 26, 2019 on the terms of a first agreement for Graduate Students employed as Research Assistants.

The agreement is subject to ratification by both parties. The parties’ negotiating teams have been actively engaged in negotiations since June 2018. Details of the tentative agreement will remain confidential until both parties ratify it.

On March 27, 2019, the University and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Locals 229, 254 and 1302 reached tentative agreements to renew their respective collective agreements. In addition, the parties also reached tentative agreements with respect to the proposed conversion and transfer of assets from the Queen’s Pension Plan to the University Pension Plan. The agreements are subject to ratification by the parties.

The tentative collective agreement between Queen’s University and the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) Local 67 is now in effect following a successful ratification vote by bargaining unit members held on June 12, 2019.

The Human Resources Committee of the Queen’s Board of Trustees voted to ratify the agreement on June 21, 2019.

Queen’s University and OPSEU Local 452 reach tentative agreements

On September 27, 2019, the University and OPSEU Local 67 reached a tentative agreement to renew the collective agreement. In addition, the parties also reached a tentative agreement with respect to the conversion and transfer of assets from the Queen’s Pension Plan to the University Pension Plan. The agreements are subject to ratification by the parties.

Impacts of potential primary/secondary school closures

Members of the Queen’s community with childcare responsibilities:
Yesterday, school boards across Ontario were notified that the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) plans to begin full strike action on Monday, October 7th if they cannot reach an agreement with the government and employer associations between now and then.

We recognize that in the event of school closures some members of the Queen’s community with school-aged children may be impacted and may be unable to make alternate arrangements for childcare on short notice.
